Re: jon boat made to pontoon boat there is a guy on a bass forum that i frequent who uses a canoe, and has i think 18 inch outriggers with a foam cylinder on each. the outriggers are made of extruded aluminum, and storebought..
Re: stabilizing a jon boat they make stabilizers for cannoes you can look at one and duplicate it for a jon boat, i have a 15 fiberglass tri haul 1971 starcraft 5 guys could not even begin to pick that boat up have leaned over the edge had two people even three that boat doesnt move i even put in the ohio river by cincinnati and fish there alot.. I haven't seen a lot of good pictures of them online but a friend and i used google sketch to draw up some pvc locks similar to vertical rod holders that would mount on the boat and use locking pins to keep the outriggers in place off the side of the boat.. Homemade outriggers for 15 1/2 ft canoe. unknown. my plan is to use 2 6ft long 6 inch pvc pipes for the floats, with end caps that will be glued with pvc cement. don't try to turn a canoe into jon boat , bad idea . and last but least , the beauty of a canoe is it's bare bones simplicity , sleek , light and finely tuned manuverability.
